Summer Overwhelm…Missing?

Summer overwhelm!
That’s what this blog post was about 5 minutes ago. 5 great tips to help you (and me) avoid the overwhelm and feel accomplished in between dealing with kids running in/0ut of the house, cars breaking down, baseball tournaments, dance & cheer practices, parades, summer camps and life slapping you over the head (or as some say, God laughing at you because you tried to plan something without consulting HIS schedule).
But it’s gone. Missing. Disappeared.
And that brings me to my REAL issue. I am really struggling with this 30 day blog challenge. I am just not sure, with everything in my life, that I have the attention span to do something for 30 days.
And if that’s true, how could I possibly expect myself to be any more successful than I am now???
I am pretty sure that as difficult as it is, it is very important for me to learn how to stay focused to the end of a project. In fact, as I write this, I am sure that my team will LOL (laugh out loud, for those of you without kids) when they read this.
So here is my public commitment. I WILL complete the 30 Day Blogging Bonanza that I created a few weeks ago. (I will even commit to TWO extra days to compensate for last weekend which flew by without a post from me.)
And I can already tell you it does everything I said it would.
- I am now getting 2-3 times more new subscribers everyday than I was before.
- I am getting great comments on Twitter, Facebook and my blog about the short articles.
- I am making new, cool friends.
- And I have cool people calling me up wanting to do business with me! (that’s money in my pocket)
So it works. I know. And I will continue.
How’s it going for you?
PS. What tips do you have for warding off the “summer overwhelm”? It would be great to hear YOUR thoughts and perhaps it would jog my memory for the 5 cool tips I thought of, wrote in a cool blog post, then lost and promptly forgot…

Good for you my friend!
My summer overwhelm strategy is to lower the expectations because with the kids home (and wanting to be fed and ran around) life is just different.
I think another great strategy is to get lots of massages!

First of all, bravo! I have 3 at home this summer and being productive is tough! My summer strategy is this- early mornings and late nights. I get the most done when the kids are asleep.

One of my strategies was definitely “lower expectations”. In fact, I believe I said to just include ONE task/small project daily. If you finish, you can always start a second. But that way, you are “accomplished” for the day!
Massages weren’t on my list–but they should be!
Thanks for sharing Therese!

Hi, Mary Pat–I remember when I still had kids at home and thought I’d work full time and continue renovating my house while I got into my Master’s program…..crazy! I’m with Therese and the strategy of lowering expectations. Also, my experience is that it’s good to give up multi-tasking when there are kids around. Drives them mad and then drives you mad and so on and so on…. I admire your persistent approach to your blogging project–and the results are proof for the rest of us. Thanks for the great example, Mary Pat.

Kassandra,
I agree that early mornings and late nights work sometimes–except when the kids do NOT go to bed/asleep. They sneak back downstairs and I am too focused on finishing up so I can go to bed to care. Then the hubby notices and thinks I never did anything… ugh! (like right now–I need to go to bed so my 6 yr old will too).
Kate,
I LOVE the idea of giving up “multi-tasking” for the summer–or forever. It is not as effecient as focusing and it becomes frustrating for everyone!
Thanks ladies! And good night!
